Who We Are
Adelaide Touring Cyclists Inc (ATC) are an Adelaide based bicycle touring club. We are active cycle tourists who have many years of cycle touring experience in Australia and in other countries around the world. Over recent years, members of Adelaide Touring Cyclists have toured in France, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom and Vietnam as well as Australia.
We aim to be the friendly recreational cycling club.
The group regularly rides through the Adelaide Hills and other areas of South Australia. The Adelaide Hills contain an abundance of quiet dirt roads as well as bitumen roads. Our rides, which are relaxed and casual affairs. The routes try to avoid busy main roads as much as possible. Sometimes we use forest trails and on rare occasions we find ourselves on a trail where we end up walking for a couple of hundred metres. Touring bikes and hybrids are suitable for virtually all our riding, but given the nature of dirt roads, a mountain bike is sometimes more comfortable. Check out our rides programme for details of our rides.
In addition to the day and weekend rides, we also have one or two week long tours in Australia. These tours are unsupported meaning all luggage and camping gear must be carried on the bike. They are mainly on quiet roads and tracks and are designed to provide a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Daily distances are generally around fifty to sixty kilometres.
Costs of these tours is kept to a minimum, but depending on the group, some evening meals are eaten at a local hotel or restaurant.
Some of us are not averse to the challenge of riding hard, fast and long, there will be a number of "challenge" rides appearing in our rides programme.
We hold a monthly club night on the Fourth Wednesday of each month in central Adelaide.
