Brett Aitken put together a site which allows you to enter your performance on certain hill climbs around the world. It is at http://www.cycle2max.com/
You can register free and have fun putting in your times. I have zeroed in on Norton Summit for the
Adelaide’s Touring Cyclists Monday night ride. You don’t have to register on the C2M site but you can if you like.
Nothing really. But it is fun and a challenge if you want a challenge. It doesn’t take a lot of time, particularly if its on your way home. It is not about competition, just compare yourself to the self of last week. (My rule of thumb is that it takes 12 sessions of any exercise to improve, so in the meantime, just enjoy yourself.)
Afterwards, we might continue to socialise at the nearest Hotel with a coffee or beer or if time does not permit, cycle off into the setting sun.
Tom found this site where you can download a training program and you can enter your personal targets. It seems pretty comprehensive, so see what you think of it. Its at http://www.shastasoftware.com/CycliStats/Download.htm for an initial free download. You can enter all your rides if you want and see where you are heading. Given height of the climb, your weight and speed, it will say how much Pizza you burnt up (actually it calculates watts and calories and stuff).
Any bike will do. And any speed will do. Its all about having fun and your own personal goals. The C2Max web site also calculates a wattage figure for you.
We leave sharp on 5:30pm so rock up 10 minutes early with your stop watch on your wrist. The start of the hill climb is at the turnoff to new Norton Summit Rd and the end is about 5.5 kms away at the nice big house number on the left. You can't miss it.
