The Fundamentals of Peak oil

For those new to the facts and background of the world oil decline (Peak Oil) try the site below. There, find a discussion of what Peak Oil is and why it happens. Who was M King Hubbert anyway? Who are the people who have extensively studied the issue? What does the start of the oil decline mean to the way we live?

Answers to the Peak Oil Problem

All is not doom and gloom.  There are solutions to Peak oil also to be found at www.energybulletin.net/primer.php; scroll down to those who promote sustainable, small communities,  those who instruct in the ways of ‘Permaculture’ or those considering new societies that are not based upon growth to name a few.  See  http://www.postcarbon.org/ for more answers. South Australia has a permaculture instruction centre, the Food Forest at Gawler, Adelaide: http://foodforest.com.au/

When will we Reach Peak Oil?

A Paper by Robert L. Hirsch  'Peaking of World Oil Production - Recent Forecasts was written in February 2007 and sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, National Energy Technology Laboratory. He summarises the estimates, most  of which estimate that Peak Oil has or will occur between 2005 and 2015.  Clearly, at the top of a huge curve, it is not possible to know exactly where the top is until it is past.
