Beyond Oil South Australia

BOSA member Sam Powrie

Sam Powrie's take on Peak Oil comes from the sustainable transport and human services angles. He is very focused on practical support for everyday bicycle use across the South Australian community and our capacity to establish and maintain localised support services for the most vulnerable amongst us. Sam has long professional experience in the specialist disability field and bicycle advocacy.

Sam believes that wishful thinking (sometimes called 'staying positive') about 'new oil extraction' technologies, renewable fuels or the prospect of technological breakthroughs, is misguided in the extreme, particularly when indulged in by our leaders.

He believes that it is essential that serious-minded folk in SA fully understand the scope of our dependency on fossil transport fuels, look carefully at the likely impact of Peak Oil on every aspect of our economic and social lives and be very realistic as to what options we may have in minimising or avoiding consequent disruption or negative outcomes.

Sam recommends that South Australians read, talk and read some more about Peak Oil and Sustainability. And then get a bike and use it! He is available to discuss most of the above at almost any opportunity
